Hello everyone, we are hiking couple turned to hiking parents to our brave LITTLE girl name, KALIKASAN. We fondly call her KALI. Today, we will be sharing our 1st hiking experience and tips as new parents in hiking Mt Batulao with a 5 month old baby. So, join us as we introduce her to the GREAT OUTDOORS.
Dahil sa magandang view, madaling akyatin at malapit lng sa bhay .Ito ang go-to overnight mountain namin as a couple pag-stress na kami sa work. Naka-ilang beses na rin kaming umakyat dito. Isinama pa namin ang aming mga kaibigan para ma-experience din nila ang rolling hills and 360 view ng Batangas and it’s neighboring cities.
So let’s start our journey! Ang Batulao ay makikita sa Nasugbu, Batangas.
Batulao is derived from it’s tagalog word. Bato or Rock and Dilaw or Yellow which refer to the mountain color during sunrise.
It takes 2 – 4 hours to summit. It has 12 peaks can be reached by either thru the old trail which is longer and challenging, or through the new trail which is easy and the most scenic route to the summit.
Since meron kaming baby, pinili nmin ang NEW TRAIL.
Take note!
Kaya nag aadjust ulit ang katawan nmin - Habol hininga at maya’t mayang take 5. At syempre PICTURE! Hehe..
TIP #1 : START EASY, REWARDING and SAFE.
START EASY – mghnap ng pang beginner mountain muna – yung madaling akyatin lng.
REWARDING – has a scenic view either along the trail or on the summit
Most importantly SAFE – has an established trail&personnel that can respond immediately in case of emergency. Pwde kayo mg hire ng guide kng meron extra budget (P500 for dayhike and 1000 for overnight). Or kng wala nman kayong guide - pwde nyo nman kunin ang number ng incharge dun sa registration area para meron kayong matawagan in case of emergency. AYyy – maraming registration area pala along the trail – kaya maraming pwde tumulong sa inyo..
TIP #2 : CHECK THE WEATHER
Magandang akyatin c mt batulao pag summer – pwde kayo mag start ng hike early morning or late afternoon para di nman msyado mainit. Wala kc puno along the trail. Madulas at maputik pag rainy season especially sa jumpoff - delikado pag meron kang ksamang bata.
TIP #3 : STURDY BABY CARRIER and TREKKING POLE
Trekking pole for stability and support.
Tip #4: MUSIC
Mg prepare ng baby friendly music - pwde nursery rhymes/instrumental or kng anong music na nakasanayan nyang pakinggan..para di nman cya ma inip. Or pwde mo nman cyang kantahan.
Tip # 5 :HIKING CLOTHES
For baby less than 1 yr old, use LIGHT COLORED LONG SLEEVES with hand cover & with footie pajama para di nman cya mainitan at the same time – protected cya sa mga talahib at insecto. Pwde mo din cya lagyan ng mild baby powder sa katawan to make their skin comfortable and dry.
Pag gabi naman – use thick overall sleepsuit with bonnet.
Kali was asleep the whole time. Sayang di nya nkita ang mgandang sunset. We arrived at the New Trail campsite at around 6:30pm. Tatay pitched our tent & cook our dinner. While Kali and I arrange our things, breastfed for awhile, konting PICTURE to capture the moment ..then decided to wake up early to witness the sunrise.
Risky pag meron kng kargang baby papuntang summit. Next time nlng pag medyo malaki na cya. Remember SAFETY FIRST!
After picture2x..ng breakfast muna..then We started breaking camp at 8am and descent at 8:30. 80% ng Mt Batulao ay open trail – so kailangan mkababa ka na before noon.
TIP #6 : CONSIDER OVERNIGHT camp
Pag 1st hike, consider as ACCLIMATIZATION climb pa ni baby.
TIP #7: PACK LIGHT and WATERPROOF UR BAG
For day hike : pwdeng mgdala ng 3 sets na overall suit para mkatipid sa space (2 sets png change pag mainit – and 1 set png uwi) and other impt baby things.
For overnight : pwdeng 4 – 5 sets suits – ksama na dyan ang png tulog ha..
Anywayz, detailed WHATS IN OUR HIKING BAG will be discussed in a separate video.
TIP #8: BABY ESSENTIAL KIT
Always inform UR OBGYNE and PEDIA for any 1st outdoor activity particularly going hiking.
For baby must have kit: Pedia recommends to take VITAMIN C (hmm..CEELIN ang gamit ko) before hiking – para iwas lagnat and sipon and PARACETAMOL drops (for baby pain pagdating sa campsite).
1.Ceelin
2.Paracetamol drop
3.Salinase – helps add moisture inside the nose
5.Baby Vicks – to calm, soothe and relax your baby.
6.Ointment for insect bites
7.Insect Repellant
8.Baby powder – to make skin dry
9.Sunblock – use baby friendly sunblock. Human nature safeprotect sunscreen.
10.Emergency Blanket
TIP #9: Payong.
TIP # 10 : Take UR TIME
Enjoy the scenery, Cherish the moment and Take pictures and videos as many as u want. As the saying goes, it’s not about the destination BUT THE JOURNEY!
Then decided to go to Tagaytay to have our lunch and go home afterwards.
So.. kamusta nman c kali sa knyang 1st hiking experience? Nag enjoy nman cya – panay kiss sa amin nung umaga. Good thing - natutulog lng siya pag mgstart na ang hike tapos magigising pag dumating na..hahha..di man lng umiyak at hindi din nilagnat or sipon man lng after ng hike.
Overall experience, as 1st time hiking parents – fulfilling. Hehehe..basta pag may dala kng bata – SAFETY FIRST.
As an adventurous parents, we plan to celebrate her monthly milestone close to nature. In her early age, we want her to foster and experience 1st hand the love and respect of the great outdoors. Believing that nature is the best teacher, letting her play and enjoy Mother Nature will mold her to be strong, determined, responsible, and humble individual with positive perspective in life. We are still a work in progress and I know we will learn more skills as we go along.
Feel free to share you outdoor stories and tips with ur baby in the comment section below.
SO GO OUT and ENJOY MOTHER NATURE! SEE YOU IN OUR NEXT ADVENTURE.

Hi all, I didn't want to make this public because I didn't want it to be a distraction from the music while I was performing but as my condition gets worse it appears that it is becoming inevitable (speculation is I got Bells Palsy or a stroke, one person even suggested it was because of drugs, I have never and do not take drugs, and the funniest was that I got kulam, haha tangina) and I guess its time I address it. In 2009, I was diagnosed with a tumor in my head, this tumor is on the nerves that control the right side of my face which is what is causing the paralysis. Shit happens! As a result I

Have you heard about Globe? Not Globe Telecom, but the famous
and home of the original Fresh Lumpia in Raon, Manila -- Globe Lumpia House.
You can consider Globe Lumpia House as one of the classic carenderia
of fresh lumpia. I think it was the oldest lumpia house I ever known. Just a trivia Globe Lumpia House was founded since 1956.
Mt. Natib is inactive starvolcano located in the northern end of Bataan Peninsula. Even if is a volcano, there were no historical eruptions or volcanic activity was recorded. It is also the Bataan’s Highest Peak with an elevation of 1,253 meters. And in 1945, it was declared a protected area of Bataan National Park. Mt. Natib is located in Barangay Tala, Orani, Bataan.
In 2008, Natib was closed for the reason that ongoing military operations have been conducted on the area. And in 2009, it was reopened again for climbers. As being the highest mountain in Bataan, most mountaineers dream to climb Mt. Natib. Whenever I heard of Mt. Natib, it always comes to my mind is the “limatik” or blood leeches. May be because of the articles I read about Mt. Natib and seeing the hiking photographs from the internet.
